I can see this being a combination of Iron Man's origin and Doctor Strange's origin.
The stark bomb blows up as in Iron Man 1, and instead of damaging his heart, it scars his face.
He escapes the same way by creating armour.
But no doctor, including one Stephen Strange, can repair his facial scars.
He searches the world for a cure and finds Kamar-Taj and learns sorcery from the Ancient One.

I watched back the video of them announcing RDJ at SDCC, and they announced him as the only person who could play the role of “Victor Von Doom”. They were specific in using Dr Doom’s full comic name. I don’t think they would have done that if it was just Tony Stark with a different life path

More videos based on groundless assumptions. It's not TONY STARK playing "Doctor Doom" but rather RDJ playing THE CHARACTER of VICTOR VON DOOM. The Russos explicitly state this in Hall H.
