Doom wears a mask and RDJ is a phenomenal character actor. I'm not saying that it isn't a strange decision, but I think it could work.

I saw someone comment this on another video, what if Howard and his mom brought Tony to Latveria as an infant only to be killed by the winter soldier, but Tony is saved and raised among the royalty of Latveria so he never would've been Tony Stark in the first place, he's raised as Victor Von Doom

Yes it may be desperate but marvel needed to get people talking and they did with this announcement, now with bringing the Russos back I feel this has lots of potential and if done right can be a great story just imagine the interactions with Spiderman and other avengers

Dude like they didn't tell us that they were doing an evil Tony stark storyline it could just be classic doom but with RDJ playing him. And this casting can have some banger interactions between Peter Parker and the other Avengers.

I think he will be iron man from another timeline and someone else will be doctor doom.

He said ”Who ’could’ play dr doom”.

When the Avengers encounter dr Doom they need a hero just as smart and rich, and they will go and fetch him from another timeline.

I think this is A) to deal with rumors when they start filming, and it is leaked that Robert is there. B) They want to keep the surprise of a returned iron man that everyone wants until people see it in the theatre.

Also note this apparently means FF First Steps won't use Doom (tony stark version or otherwise) EXCEPT as a mid or post credit scene to advertise for Secret Wars. At least as far as we know. We do know this was officially announced as a Tony Stark variant. We also know that both the 1st Secret Wars and the Hickman Secret Wars relied heavily on Doom. In 1st SW Kang is killed by Doom very surprisingly early in the story. The stories also rely heavily on pieces of multiple places/ alternate histories all becoming one planet. So it's possible Dr Doom never shows up or the Tony Stark version pushes him aside. With Doom being unlikely to be in First Steps it's more likely the "BattleWorlds" planet will just have a version of Tony as Dr Doom...who kills Kang(s) and takes over any multiverse roles Kang would have had to lead to Secret Wars.

I don't think I can agree. RDJ has so much more range than you're giving him credit for, and Marvel will likely change his voice and never take off the mask, so it will be heavily dependent on his acting and mannerisms. He is a very talented actor, not just Ironman. Sure studios have typecast him as a Tony Stark personality since he started playing him, but he is very capable of playing vastly different characters.

This is the kinda stuff we clowned on the DCEU for. Let’s give you a familiar face to get you interested because we couldn’t tell good stories or build up a character. People are more excited to see Thor and Spider-Man meet Doom than Reed Richards and Sue Storm. Thats a problem, they should’ve just used Superior Iron-man. Or, you know, a different new actor for Doom that they built up by having actual movies first or at least alluded to just a little bit,

Tony stark came naturally to RDJ. It sometimes makes people forget that RDJ is an amazing actor who can play different types of characters.

While idk about the decision to bring RDJ back, im saying that if its RDJ, lets see first. Don't discredit him just yet.

If it were any other directors and writers then I would agree. Russos and Mcfreely are at the wheel, so I’m willing to let them cook and give them a chance. They are not gonna slap out a bad movie. I have faith in them and RDJ.

People are acting like this. Movie is going to be horrible. Way too early. First of all, he's an actor just because you've seen him only play one character doesn't mean he can't play another. That's the entire job of being an actor. Also, we've gotten one announcement. Besides that, it will exist at some time for this movie and you're already going out and saying that it will not be iconic or based around any comics or anything to the actual series. My guy the only announcement has been that rdj plays Doctor Doom. Not to mention he will be wearing a mask and with CGI there he might even have a entire different face but his job is to be an actor. He can play multiple roles

Agreed. I think if he hadn't been Tony Stark, RDJ could be a pretty decent Doom. But he is Tony, and there's people who could have been better than pretty decent
