Are you looking for a used bakkie in South Africa? We have thousands to choose from!

Here it is, our largest drag race ever. Six bakkies (or for our international audience, pick-ups or utes) lined up side by side on a staggeringly awesome salt pan, 700km outside of Cape Town, South Africa.

The contenders are (ranked from most to least powerful, prices as of September 2021)

1. 2021 Volkswagen Amarok 3.0 V6 - 190kW - 580Nm - R936,700
2. 2021 Ford Ranger Thunder 2.0 Bi-turbo - 157kW - 500Nm - R839,900
3. 2021 Toyota Hilux 2.8 GD-6 Legend RS - 150kW - 500Nm - R861,600
4. 2021 Mazda BT-50 3.0 TD - 140kW - 450Nm - R794,400
5. 2021 Nissan Navara 2.5DDTi LE - 140kW - 450Nm - R677,00
6. 2021 GWM P-Series 2.0TD LT - 120kW - 400Nm - R554,900

All of them would be vying for glory on the quarter mile (400m). The surface was a remarkably flat and hard clay, the result of an ancient dried-up lake. It was very grippy, closer to tarmac than gravel.

We ran all the bakkies in 4x2 mode.

We hope you enjoy the video, let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

I just enjoyed the Isuzu powered Mazda kicking dust in the sales hero's eyes.

I expected a table showing finishing times of all vehicles. A very well put together video over all.

I am so happy for the Mazda BT50. The most underrated and slated bakkie of all time. This should help with their sales

Amarok is just in its own class when it comes to power and no Bakkie manufacturer will ever beat that Amarok... but i am all impressed with the New BT-50(Isuzu powered), i have fallen in love with it making it my 2nd favorite Bakkie from the Hilux

I remember a time when the amarok was the most mocked pick up for having the same displacement as coke and milk...

For me the 4jj3 isuzu engine is the king here. Very strong engine with his 4 cylinder that perform so well.

Wow what a race, different results from the previous one between the Ford and the Toyota, but that 190 kW Amarok it's a beast

Where is the detailed summary of the placings at the end? Other than that - top work.

Another fantastic bakkie drag race 🇿🇦👏. You guys are awesome.

But that BT-50 though 🙆🤔, some underrating of specs I'm sure.

The GWM Pseries real world performance always punches above its suggested on paper outputs, Great to see it can relatively keep its chin up against the established Brutes 👍🏾😊

I have 2018 2.3 twin turbo Navara which puts out 140kw and 450nm and 4 years down the line the newer version still puts out the same power, shame on nissan.
Mine is on stage 1 with 160kw and 520nm

Cool video. Really looking forward to the full comparison later. The GWM is really appealing to alot of people at the moment due to its price and tech, so definitely keen to see how it goes up against the tried and trusted Toyota, Ford and Mazda.
