Lmao. She was amazed he read it and then got mad that his opinions didn't match hers. Crazy

Ayn Rand was against “graft”. If you read the book, Dagny Taggart’s brother, Jim, was the president of the railroad and tried to succeed in business by lobbying and leveraging political “pull” and he was made out to be a villain in the story. I’m not saying Ayn Rand’s political and economic philosophy was right, but if you’re going to do an analysis of her ideas it would be good if you understood them. The problem with nearly every “pure” economic and political philosophy (communism, socialism, democracy, etc) is that they assume morality and ignore human nature. That’s why they all sound good in theory, but all fall short in practicality.

She actually thought she was gonna make a point by making Andrew look not as educated as herself because he didn’t read a book. Well that blew up in her face and you can see it in her face.

I work for the government and I approve this message. Lobbying absolute controls our world. I don’t think the average person truly understands the amount of money that gets spent making the government bend to their will

What he is talking about is what Rand was worried about; crony capitalism. Government backed and led cooperations!

Atlas shrugged and your brain fell out💀

The fact that he brought her personal life into his “analysis” demonstrates a bias which impacts his objectivity.

Andrew missed the whole point of "Atlas Shrugged". He probably didn't understand "Fountainhead" or "We The Living" either.

Hero?? Such an over used word. Everyone is labeled hero if they do something that women like.

I normally agree with Andrew but I feel like he missed the point of Atlas Shrugged. It was a referendum against Communism. She was Soviet defector trying to expose the dangers of Communism to the world.

At this point the Whatever Podcast is 90% Andrew. He actually has a spine and doesn’t defend the guests when they’re out of line. He says the things that need to be said instead of trying to walk on eggshells to not offend anyone too much. He’s the only reason I watch. I tried watching an episode with just Brian and it was frustrating af.

Brian is clearly intelligent and seemingly a good man, but he lacks the bite and sternness required for the type of discussions hosted on his platform.

The point of Atlas Shrugged is the danger of government controlling free enterprise and it is a very valid cautionary tale. Free enterprise is far less dangerous than big government

He just described crony capitalism and statism to a T.

I thought Atlas Shrugged was about capitalism vs socialism. Why socialism won't work.

Ummm i took Atlas Shrugged as a commentary on leaving markets alone to succeed or fail on their own. What the hell is wrong with that?

Disagree with Andrew on this rich industrialists didn't save society in the fact, it was only a select few of "rich industrialists" who withdrew from society....along with other intelligent people who provided for society (judges, musicians etc). The whole point of the book is that the producers in society were no longer going to allow themselves to be leached upon by the non-producers and government.
Just because Rand was hedonistic in her personal life doesn't mean the book she wrote has no value.
Looks like even debate king Andy can get things wrong from time to time.

We have seen what happened when the rich industrialists are forced out. Look at communist countries. Venezuela China pre capitalist.

I don’t think he understood the assignment

Rand depicted both types of industrialists: some were tireless innovators, and others used government corruption to achieve their ends. She made only the innovators out to be heroes.

She definitely considers herself, a well-informed, worldly, intellectual and it’s painful to watch.
