Orthopedic cupping can be highly effective for treating patellar tendonitis, particularly when the client is in a side-lying position. This technique helps relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and improve mobility by targeting adhesions and tightness in the quadriceps and patellar regions.

Here’s a guide for practitioners to effectively apply this technique:

👉 Client Positioning: Place the client in a side-lying position with the affected leg on top. This provides optimal access to the quadriceps and patellar regions.

👉 Cup Placement: Apply size two or three edge cups on the distal quadriceps. If there are adhesions or tightness, place additional cups on the mid or superior quad.

👉 Quad Stretching: Stand behind the client, hold just above the ankle, and bring the hip to a neutral position. Bend the knee to stretch the quadriceps, creating movement at the patella and decompressing the surrounding tissues. Hold the stretch for 15-20 seconds, then return to a resting position before repeating.

👉 Muscle Energy Technique: Enhance the stretch by having the client extend the knee against your resistance. After the client relaxes, increase the knee flexion. This technique improves muscle elongation and further mobilizes the patella.

This combination of cupping and stretching provides effective relief for patellar tendonitis, making it a valuable addition to your treatment
methods.
