Pelicans are basically the equivalent of giant and curious seagulls. The colony in St. James's Park often come out of the water to inspect tourists, and will even sit on benches next to them to try and get food!

Kind of funny, the whole video she is being harrassed by the pelicans, and then the waiter comes over and teaches her the pillow shield technique. Then she pridefully raises her shield while bellowing a challenge at the attacking beasts.
