I like android because it doesn't force you into an eco system. With android I can use most smart watches, pair almost any earphones and keep most data between different phone makers. The fast pairing of the pixel buds with a pixel device came to other devices too (I get the same pairing popup with my oneplus bose products).
So for me the way Google went (and is going) is great for me: Giving their devices some priority with updates and features, but also bringing most of it slowly to other phones (so you don't miss out too much when you pair differently branded products)

Personally I'm glad not to have an ecosystem. I use all kinds of products and don't want to be walled into one company

I really like 6 months type review, despite no hype, those are really helpful wideos!

I upgraded from a Pixel 3XL to a 5 and this video is 100% accurate. I miss the squeeze for assistant so much and cmon google, release a pixel watch already 😢

Google is definitely going in the right direction with the Pixel 5 imo. Let's hope their new processor will compete with Snapdragon and that they will use a new sensor for the camera

Yes! If I could get something close to my Apple Watch from Google, I would be much more likely to switch. I have looked at the Pixel time and time again, but I use my watch for so much.

Great points, agree with all. Samsung already understood the ecosystem importance. It's basically building it not with their hardware, but also around Google itself, Microsoft and even Spotify. Without even trying I have a ton of Samsungs ecosystem in the house already, specially because they sell TVs, soundbars etc.

Hi, good review!
I would like to add some comments as a person who lives out of USA, and cames from Oneplus and Samsung.
The pixel 5 made me realice that specks are not relevant anymore for an average user. My pixel 5 work best, or at least as good as, the other flagships I owned. The integration betwen apps and launcher feel super snapy. In my case, I have reduce the amount of app downloaded in my phone because I prefere the google ones.
The only thing I see ass a down side is that most of the features that cames only in the Pixels are not available in Latin America.
Sorry for my english.
Cheers to all

I'm mostly drawn to the Pixel 5 for its ergonomics. I'm on a OnePlus 7 Pro, and my last phone was a Nexus 6, so I've been using giant phones for years, and I'm sick of it.

Just got a 5 today after using a 3 since it came out. I love the pixel line, and the minor issues I have are far outweighed by the shear customization of the OS. So I'll probably stick with it for a while.

The photo samples in this video are the same photos you used in the previous pixel 5 review you made. At least you should have taken new photos, so we'll know how well the camera is keeping up.

Rocking it right now. Went from 2xl to OnePlus 7 pro, then briefly a 8t now I'm back to pixel and couldn't be happier. The specs aren't the best but it's easier to use for my needs and I love stock android. I'm on 12 beta 2 now and it's pretty cool

I don't give a rip about a smartwatch that matches and is part of an ecosystem. Also, calling the video "unusable" is straight silly IMO.

I've had my Google Pixel 3a for 2 years now - and wow it's the best phone I've ever had - not been updated to obscurity like iPhones and not over cluttered with crap like Samsung. Can't wait to update to the Pixel 5 next month

The Fitbit watch works well with my Pixel 5. I have yet to see anyone in the wild use their Apple Watch for anything other than showing it off. I never see anyone poking it to do things. Great review though.

You can bring up the assistant by swiping from the bottom left or right corner. That's a worthy alternative imo.

You gotta really be a videographer to care about that small video detail between the iphone 12 and pixel 5. Because the pixel does everything it needs to do for the average joe with that 4K 60 fps. Would say pixel 5 is priced a little higher than what it should. Should be $600 at the most just because its processor is limited (though not bad). Overall, a great phone for anyone who doesn't need the Apple ecosystem and if Samsung gave them a bad experience in the past.

I got my Pixel 5 for real cheap through a carrier. Shop around, never pay full price for a phone. I really enjoy the size and battery of this phone. The camera and software updates are big bonuses. Ecosystem isn't the biggest deal for me. My Galaxy Buds+ and Chromebook work great with my Pixel, though that would be the cause for and Android phone. Also I'm pretty sure you can do those few things you mentioned with and Android phone and a Chromebook. Some of that functionality works in Windows too.

My main issue with the Pixel is 128GB cap compounded with no SD card option. I'm not ready to switch from Android to iOS. I rely heavily on Android Auto and our deep Google ties.

I am on the fence between switching to iPhone 12 and Apple ecosystem or getting a Pixel 5 (or 6). What compels me to switch from Pixel 3, Pixel Buds, and my various home Assistant devices is the fluid reliability of my Macbook, Apple TV and iPad. Plus, the iMessage, AirDrop, and copy paste across devices features should not be understated. And I love what Apple is doing with its M1 and A14 chips and I love the idea of the A14 in the compact, ergonomic iPhon 12 Mini. I am not clamoring for a smart watch because Wear OS watches are not great (according to reviews) and the Apple Watch is too expensive for me. Apple still requires face unlock which is something I can't see getting used to coming from the rear fingerprint sensor on my Pixel 3. Google Assistant seems to rein supreme over Siri in my limited experience comparing. And I know Apple Home products are really good but that is a huge investment.
