For ancient times, when people were taking governance techniques from a shallow pool, since history couldn't provide much more, that is not only fine, it is actually impressive. What baffles me is that thousand years later we still have parts of the planet that are governed just like this.

BTW, it would be nice if you cited your information sources on the description. I would like to dive deeper into this.

Maybe the only reason that the Egyptian system worked is because that they don't inflict physical punishment for economic/taxation offenses at all? The people had every right to do whatever they want privately unless it's harvest season, thus making them supportive of the established national distributional monopoly.

The taxation of products looks like todays Brazil. Tax for creating, tax to move product. Tax for sale and tax for moving over seas. And tax again to be aure you taxed it all. Than create a tax that compensate for the effort to create more taxes.
