Those brave firefighters need better compensation and benefits. Most wildland firefighters are temporary or contract workers. With the way the droughts are accelerating we are going to depend on them more and more.

I live near this fire. Graze it, log it, or watch it burn is what we are seeing. This is a poverty stricken area made up mostly ranchers. May God have mercy on us!

I was In The path of The campfire in paradise, ca...Evacuated &lost Everything...we didn't have time for Anything.live Embers were falling Everywhere. &smoke so thick it was, sad about all these fires...Praying they get them out...We lost 87 people in the fire, most in their cars trying to escape &those bedridden in their homes..day time was filled with dark skys..we couldn't tell it was morning...it looked like nite time, red skys...killer winds, live embers &deadly smoke..please don't take chances ..please be safe everyone...

How do you do a news article about this and not mention the drought?

I was a Type II wildland firefighter in Oregon for most of the 90's and early 2000's. The Biscuit fire, Boundary Complex, The Dalles, etc. etc.
We actually do make pretty good money. It's just not year round work.
College students in particular do well during fire seasons, and can live off what they made for the rest of the school year. People who want half the year off to travel do it as well.

Can't say enough about the bravery of our firefighters. Only wish we could get better information from the news. They love showing the flames. It would be more helpful if they showed accurate maps of the spread and towns it's approaching.

So, here is a fact that many of you don't know, but many of Wildfires are happening in areas that were historically Oaks! Oaks are not only fire resistant but also drought tolerant! But thanks to decades of Fire suppression, logging our Native Oaks, farming and Urban development we have allow the Conifers to move in. Conifers are prone to fires and drought intolerant, Oaks are not! The Nation's largest fire, the Bootleg Fire which is happening in my home state of Oregon near the City of Klamath Falls and in The Klamath Basin was nothing but Oregon White Oak Savannahs! Today, it is covered in conifers! and it is covered on fire!!

People need to STOP LIVING IN FORESTS AND LIVE IN BRICK AND MORTAR CITIES. I lost my home 4 years ago but I learned my lesson and now I live in a CITY and I am not surrounded by thousands of dry TREES anymore.
