Indigenous people practiced controlled burns for eons to reduce fuel loads, create fire breaks, protect their settlements, and encourage regrowth that attracts game. They've been doing that since long before Europeans arrived with their hubris, and reluctance to accept forrest fire as a natural process that can be guided but not stopped.
