I’ve been in therapy for ADHD for 20 years and this is the first time anyone has explained this to me. It makes so much sense.

I've been lately grasping how allpresent this issue is, how it goes through all aspects of life and personality! The interesting thing is I am pretty good at imagining how a space or a room would look like in a new design. But grasping another people's visual concepts as they tell it I find overwhelming and boring at the same time.
I would add that I love full, deep, clear colors, I don't like in-betweens. Also my deepest memories are emotional pictures, I can see every detail, even the sunray. As I was young I loved sayings, but now I often think in memes and tv-show scenes!

I really like this video and the point that translating instructions from writing, to language, to visualisations and then to real-work actions; requires far more working memory than visualisation to actions. This explains why I 'like' visual explanations for things - a picture paints a thousand words etc...
This also matches up with my (limited) understanding of neurobiology in that far more of the human brain is devoted to processing of visual imagery than anything else - because we are excellent hunters as a species. So to you what you have said... the more visual we can make an analysis of something, the more of the brain's automatic structures we can employ to understand something - and the less executive function and dopamine is consumed in performing that task of understanding.
This is why Dan Roam's Back of the Napkin book is great!

Thank you Jeff, I've been battling depression, and today I wake up with a burst of energy, I haven't been able to sleep quite well because of dental problems ( they are fixing my bite, I had bruxism), and because I haven't done enough psyhical exercise (I think), sometimes I struggle with social anxiety ( child trauma related) is a battle everyday but I think I'm winning :D . Now I am far away from my soulmate, living alone in an small apartment, working for the minimal from my computer, an having a loot of free time to finish my thesis for my degree, last time I tried concerta and it made me feel more depressed, and right now I don't have enough money to see an specialist, the last one send me to get a brains scan ( I haven't done it because of the money, he said I'm might be autistic). Your videos bring me a "visual imagery" and hope that I'm not alone in this, and I can do it. Thank you again <3

I just found your channel and am excited to learn from you. I have a question about working memory and CALENDARS. I am thinking these two things have to be connected and wondering if you have any insight into what the best options might be for us ADHD people. I can lose sight of the silliest things and I know it hurts people in my life. Do you suggest anything in particular? I’m looking at an annual wall calendar that shows all the months of the year. It’s poster size. Would love to hear back from you!🙏

This is how I feel when people give me verbal directions to get from one place to another. It just becomes a long list that I have to try and remember. I don't use visual imagery much at all. I've been working on utilizing it. But it isn't easy.

Given me some new words to explain learning phenomena I've experienced a lot. I wonder how many examples I could collect of visual educational material that taxes or which relieves wording memory, and if I could make a video about it.

Is it a visual imagery problem that I have trouble seeing how close or far away other cars are from me when I'm parking?

OMG! I got kicked out of scouts at school. YouTube I’m sure do great videos for making knots, I’m very good at tying myself up in them! 🤪

This makes me wonder... There are times when I absolutely cannot understand what people are saying. At its worst, it ends up feeling like they are speaking a foreign language. Maybe my brain just isn't able to hold onto each word long enough to then piece everything together into something meaningful - maybe it's a WM issue. In any case, it was a significant problem for me in school. Even if I was able to focus on what was being said, there was a good chance I wouldn't be able to understand. When that happened - why waste valuable mental resources on trying to focus?

(Annnd I deleted a long rant) lol

Those instructions seemed to contain a lot of words that are not used very often.

The imagery would be much clearer without the confusing rabbit analogy ....
