Most manual tutorials are done by professionals who have no idea what it's like to actually learn a manual because they've been doing them for so long. It took a while for me to learn how to do one, and I almost gave up. But recently, it finally clicked and I'm holding a manual for 100+ feet now. In this training, I go over everything that helped me learn how to do a manual on a bike, and all the huge breakthroughs I had over years of practice.

Seth, keeping your knees out increases your inertia. Inertia is a tendency of an object to resist changes in motion and is sort of a measurement of how close an objects total mass is to its center of mass. Basically higher inertia = more stability. This can be seen on a tight rope act. If you try and walk along a rope with your arms to your side then your inertia is small and it will be very hard. If you try and walk along a rope with your arms out to the side parallel to the ground your inertia is greater and it will be much easier. This is why many old tight rope act the athlete would hold a long weight which would greatly increase their inertia making it much easier.

This is the most down to earth and probably best how to mtb video on the Internet! The “there is no balance point” blew my mind, never thought about that! Awesome video Seth! 🤘

Step 6: wear a super awesome Strokes T? I think the success is all about the T.

Loved the part about being no balance point, it’s all about correcting the the movement of the bike or counter balancing it. I’ve been able to Manual for half a year now and I’ve never heard this before, fantastic point!!!🙌

Im glad to find a video thats finally honest about how long it takes to manual! normally i see people pretending they learned to manual in a matter of days, which we all know is complete nonsense. It actually frustrated me as was setting unrealistic targets for me.

I am 30, I have been riding BMX for 1month, no experience with wheelies or manuals in the past. I haven't owned a bike for 10 years. I have been learning how to manual every day, watched many how to videos, your steps took my manual from 1M to 3M on the same day as watching this video. Excellent video, subscribing.

I'm 40 and have never done a manual before, but I have watched all YT videos about how to manual, and this is by far the best one! I feel inspired to start now.

I always thought I’d never be able to manual, trying everyday with no luck and then one day a few years ago it just clicked. Suddenly I could manual down the length of my street. can now pretty much manual until my arms get sore 😂. Practice people practice

Seth explains the essentials of a manual much better than most professional mtb trainers in their video tutorials. Seth's quality keeps on getting better and better refreshing the mountain biking related content. Thank you for your creative and amazing observational skills.

I’ve watched a number of videos on manualing and almost passed on yours - so happy I didn’t. Excellent job explaining the process. Nice work.

"if you train your body to jump off at any sign of discomfort...." Truest statement ever for anything mtb training. That's such a bad habit that limits people's progression.

As a BMX rider since 2002, I can vouch for everything said in this video. It's hard to articulate the explanation of what's going on in a manual, but this video nails it 100%.

Eventually you can get so predictive of how your bike is about to fall that you can ride brakeless and still manual just as long.

The way I think of it is your constant predictive counterbalancing hip movements are what continously create and maintain the "balance point" that never would exist without constant work.

It's like a bucket of sand with a hole in the bottom. If you keep adding sand at the same rate it leaks out the bottom, it will appear as though the sand level is staying constant, even though in reality you constantly are adding sand at the right amounts at the right rate to create this illusion.

I've watched a bunch of BMX tutorials on manuals and this one makes so much more sense and the principles 100% apply. The "there is no balance point" tipe is probably the biggest game changer for me. Thanks for this!!!

Man, once you click a manual they become dead easy. I struggled for like 2 years to get them dialled on a BMX, but once I got them I could manual for ages, until I completely ran out of speed and came to a standstill. Super great feeling.

Now that I am going to start MTB, this video will be helpful!
