How To Qualify For VA Dental Care Benefits

Many veterans qualify for VA dental care benefits. These benefits may include free dental care, reduced-fee dental care, and no-cost preventative services. Depending on your eligibility status you could pay absolutely nothing out of pocket to get the dental care that you need.

If you are enrolled in the VA health care system, you may be able to get help paying for dental insurance premiums through the VA Dental Insurance Program (VADIP)

I'm 100% P & T. Before I moved to Costa Rica, I had the VA complete all my dental needs. If you are eligible, I encourage fellow vets to utilize this benefit.

I have a brother in law that is a retired Dentist. He told me years ago. To be very picky about what Dentist you use. Thanks for the informational video Craig.

They do an ok job. I believe all veterans should be able to get dental coverage.

I have TMJ va dentist told me I have the largest deviation that he has seen in 25 years of work. I had no idea the VA would cover this. Thanks!

I work va community care dental so I send veterans to outside vendors. The authorizations we sent out are pre approved services. Anything not on that pre authorization the vendor has to send a request for services form to the va dental to approve additional services.

I'm at 80% and signed up for the VADIP. Monthly premiums are about $60. It's pretty good insurance. The problem is that no dentist wants to work on my teeth because of my heart disease and the fact that I'm on 2 blood thinners.

Hey Craig, I was a small arms instructor in the USAF. When I first entered active duty, when we conducted a live fire qualification, the discharge of burnt gunpowder made my civilian fillings react with a metallic taste in my mouth. On a daily basis. The USAF dental Dr’s agreed that the only metal that would not react to the chemical discharge of firing a small arm gunpowder, their in solving the problem.
The USAF dental team REMOVED AND REPLACED ALL OF MY CIVILIAN FILLINGS WITH GOLD. That was 30 years ago, took 2.5 years to complete, gold foils, impacts etc all old school gold work. Since then 30 years later there is 0% gold left in any filling hole created by the USAF, at least 8-10 teeth were re fitted with gold, including a front trauma that killed one of my front teeth.
Now I have holes EVERYWHERE in my teeth, pardontal, gingivitis, and deep tissue damage due to the VA denied my dental claim years ago. Any advice ? I have a Tela hearing with a VA judge in September… what do YOU think ?
The USAF is responsible for the condition of my dental work since the first civilian filling was replaced with gold to continue my USAF. career.

While on Chemo, I began continuous bleeding from the gums. VA Oncologist recommended I have my lower teeth removed because he was afraid of infection.

VA Dental said based on this they would remove all my lower teeth but would not provide dentures (and that is exactly what happen). They removed all my lower teeth but I had to go private and purchase the denture.

I finally got my 100% last month and am now scheduled for a VA Dental appt in mid March. I had issues getting anyone at the Greenville clinic to even answer the phone and had to get a VA Patient Advocate involved. Things moved pretty quick after that call. I have lost 4 molars and a Crown over the last 4 or 5 years and your right Craig...I couldn't afford to go to a Dentist. I was at 90% for over 20 years before getting the bump up. Hopefully I can finally get these issues fixed cause eating is such an issue I've lost like 20+ pounds since last year.

I was going to have a huge dental surgery...but turned it down in place of a different simpler treatment...they put in 11 crowns, most of them gold. I love my dentist. I used to bring them 3 Dozen Dunkin Donuts on Holiday's...

I have private insurance and its still going to cost me about 3 grand to have my teeth fixed from all the damage done while on deployments and not being able to properly take care of my teeth while in service. I agree we need better dental care via the VA

Boy am I grateful, I just had fillings, root canal & crown done at the VA. 🤸😁
Before getting P&T I was not able to afford crowns and had to get temporary fillings instead from some quack. VA dental is top notch compared to the rest of the VA.

I went Community Care route, to be able to chew without pain is such a relief.

I haven't been to a dentist in 6 years, and the last time was because of the pain. Quoted over $1200 to do root canal or $250 to pull the tooth plus the $89 exam with x-rays. I had the tooth pulled. Yep, it's BS, I have full medical at the VA, but no dental. I just go without unless I get severe pain.

Excellent info Mr. CC. When I get to 100%, my snaggle teeth will be on the top of the list to get corrected. Happy Beer:30!

Preach! Not at 100% yet and had to get a root canal. With insurance it was 1500 and required 2 specialists and 4 visits to get done. Absolutely ridiculous.

This tops my list as va pet peeves....I'm at 80% combined since 2014 with no dental insurance and have paid over 5k out of pocket for major dental work the past 2 years. I'm thinking of going to Mexico to finish up what's needed. Insurance os va is scam also, discounted plans that only cover 40-50% of major procedures, that's AFTER u pay a whole calendar year of premiums..!!!
