Nodding Onion - a native perennial that is inconspicuous except when it is in flower. The nodding pink-purple flower heads on slender stalks lead to an onion buld sought by many First Nations groups. It was eaten sparingly and was often cooked with fish to mask the fishy flavour. Properly cooked they lose their strong flavour. Care must be taken not to confuse Nodding Onion with Death Camas which as its name suggests is deadly poisonous. June 2014
