When I get given tracks that have had all the detail erased by clipping/limiting I use some compression and ease off the attack to fake some detail. Sometimes that means a change of EQ in the highs but I like to feel the "microdynamics", the texture, in my ears.

I manage to retain dynamics in my mixes by using 2 compressors at soft settings on my mix buss

Heard today that dynamic eq and external trigger can help for restoring the dynamics :)

(Weekend Heroes - N'ex) is ~2rms and is the best sounding record at that level I've ever heard. No doubt mostly because it's a pretty minimal tune so it can get away with it. Killer track too.

using waves x trans works a treat to help bring back transients

"You're not going to get -4 RMS masters unless you're mental" ... exactly! Stick it somewhere that enforces loudness control and it will sound like arse compared to the less crushed tracks.

Good thought about not being competitive.

There are many pop and acoustic tracks nowadays that are hitting those levels and TBH they don't sound as horrible as you'd think. The biggest problem I have with those tracks is that they roll off all of the bottom end to get those levels. Probably not an issue on how most people are listening but on any decent system quieter masters sound far better.

„You need to compete in sound quality not in Level“ golden nugget👌🏻👌🏻👍

Music industry really needs some norm for dynamics as it is with movies, It should be like DR12, that's ideal I would say. Records with loudness war should be clearly marked, customer should know what he is buying.

Skrillex has 4.5 RMS. He's using lots of subgroups. Just wanted to say 😁

-2 ? WTF? -8 RMS is already (too?) loud. On some of the first scale for CD mastering, the 0dB mark was at -20dB. And everything is getting turn down anyway.

You can easily see it on iTunes, most modern track are getting turn down by 6 to 8 sometimes 10 dB. So what's the point? Classic CD mastering sound better and louder!

Even in EDM, Daft Punk is at like -12 to -14 RMS.
