I bet those rickshaw puller’s are fit! Excellent film, all the people seem unsure about the camera and don’t seem to know what to make of it.

About one-half of the people seen in this film lived in Peking through the Boxer Rebellion. I want to speak to them about what they had seen...

I don't think it is Beijing. Looks more like Shanghai in my opinion.

Awesome footage. Apart from the human-powered rickshaws I must say it looks very modern for the time, ie western cut clothes, impressive city buildings and roads. I guess the war and then the Cultural Revolution between them knocked progress back a decade or 2. It definitely bears rewatching. I think someone in a rickshaw at 1.25 is late for the office or something.

This is SHANGHAI, not Beijing. You can find footage of 1930s Beijing on YouTube -- with not a car in sight! Everyone is on foot or horse-drawn wagon. Shanghai and Beijing were like two different planets 100 years ago!

It seems that Beijing used left-hand traffic in the 30s, just like the International Concession in Shanghai and Japanese-occupied Manchuria, why doesn’t China longer drive on the left?
