Why do Jehovah's Witnesses water down what happened in Malawi?

(Rebuttals Sushi no. 293 - Reviewing JW Broadcasting: April 2022) The double standard regarding Mexico and Malawi remains one of the biggest scandals of Jehovah's Witness history, which could explain why whenever referring to Malawi the extent of the persecution in the Sixties and Seventies is nearly always watered down.

Baston seems proud of being deemed worthy of being given a way out by “Jehovah’s hand” but doesn’t bother to question the randomness of it all, or to ponder why others much more vulnerable than him such as the terrified women and children, elderly ones, etc, were not granted a way out.
That is indeed a very superficial and arrogant viewpoint when people claim that God saved them somehow, while ignoring the plight and pleadings of others.

Why didn't Jehovah intervene by changing the GB's mind about the party card? Especially since they allowed it for Mexico.

As a child I remember the situation in Malawi being used to scare us into submission, we were told of some of the horrendous things that happened and told that we better create a strong relationship with Jehovah now so that when we're persecuted we can stay faithful. Absolutely terrifying for a young child....

It’s infuriating to see people literally suffering for a group that alters the Bible in a way that creates ridiculous rules. I hope and pray for the fall of Watchtower!

I remember a yearbook about it. It was a horrendous situation. Later learned about the cards and the double standard it made me so sad... Realize the organisation let those people down big way .😞

Those poor people were brainwashed into thinking Armageddon is right around the corner in 1975. How awful it must of been

There needs to be a "Killing Fields" style film about this atrocity...

Why do Jehovah's Witnesses turn off their lights during Halloween? They don't like strangers knocking on their doors. lol I heard that from my barber yesterday and I've been laughing at it all day.

When I was in they didn't water it down. When I was young they told in graphic detail how some of them died like that young sister pleading for her life. I also remember like it was yesterday that young brother in WWII looking up at the guillotine. I still think about them from time to time. I had trouble sleeping after hearing it. I do agree that young kids don't need to hear this kind of stuff but you can't isolate them from what the world is really like. I've read about some of the farmer murders in SA happening now and it is so horrific that I'm glad I never brought children into this world. In the next few years its going to start all over again because there is food inflation coming that the world hasn't seen in recent history. This kind of economic disaster is why they are so effective with the fear tactics because every one I talk to says there is pain coming and not just in poor countries. Next year I expect food prices to double and now the average American now spends $5k / year on gas. That is a huge number. Every spring I walk across honeysuckle trees and as soon as I smell the sweet fragrance even though it was 30 to 40 years ago I remember that watchtower article "the sweet smell of death" it described roman parades after battles and the vanquished in chains had to smell roses on the street before meeting their deaths. Strange to grow up and spend the last 50 years fearing "blood up to the saddles".

Meanwhile the GB was wined and dined and waited on in the safety of their cushy rooms. And the foolish followers feel the Malawi massacre is part of the great tribulation.

A house burned down and everyone inside was killed. Later, a bible was found amongst the ruins and was completely unscathed. A miracle!

Interestingly, these men will never realize that all these dishonest attitude of hiding facts, and watering down genuine facts from listeners backfire when Streisand effect comes into play! This Streisand effect made me know who really Rutherford was. Then I and my entire family members woke up after watching your video about Rutherford and his bethsarim. Their attitude to me, is all about dishonesty and deceit. Great thanks to you Lloyd for your extraordinary efforts in exposing all the mess.

Dishonesty and deceit are Watchtower leaders's favorite tools!

We had a brother from Malawi speak in my congregation when I was about 17. Nothing like this was even spoken about. It was just "Oh Jehovah saved us from persecution" smh.
So happy I left this organization

I remember the expectation we had here in Canada that exactly the same things would happen to us when the great tribulation came. I was young, and was being told that I should expect that to happen to me and to all those I loved. It's a wonder those of us who grew up in that mess are able to function.
Recently, Garry Kasparov, world-famous chess master, was quoted as saying about Russia and Putin:
"The rules change all the time but the results never change."
Remarkable similarities !!!

It’s just not good how they speak.. like for example Jehovah made a way out.. so for those who got killed why Jehovah didn’t help them too…. Glad l left…..

I don't understand how they justify this. That they allow people to be killed over a card. Just let them buy the card!

I can't work out what Jehovah actually did for him! Jehovah seems to have done absolutely nothing! The guard helped him because he felt sorry for him!

THERE HAVE BEEN A LOT OF RELIGIOUS GROUPS that were brutally persecuted and tortured in history whose religious doctrines were unbiblical just like the Watchtower's are. One of them were the Shakers. So, its amazing how the Watchtower leaders pride on persecution and uses it to pump their uninformed followers' ego and self-righteousness! Shame.
