My father was serving as the Gun Trainer on the third five-inch gun of the USS Kimberly when his gun was struck by a Kamikaze. His face was slammed into the gun sight. The Breech protected him from being killed. Of the five in the gun all were killed but him. His friend, Ozeskis brains were blown out all over the inside of the gun. Nineteen sailors were killed. Yeah, Memorial Day...
