In my state an uninsured motorist fee of $500.00, is offered if you don't have insurance. For me it's cheaper then auto insurance which goes up every 6 months. They claim the states want it that way but I suspect they lobby to get it and keep it that way, after all, insurance companies are in business to make money. The more they take in and the less they pay out, the bigger their profits. What a racket.

Take it from me it’s not worth it. If your rates are high just keep on looking for the best and just make due. Your registration will also be suspended due to the lack of insurance so that’s another charge. I was 19 (25 now) and I got away with it for a while because I’m not a reckless driver but you’ll only get away with it so long. Cop got me going 8 miles over during graveyard hours (which is the perfect time to get pulled over) Now my case was dismissed and I didn’t have to pay the $1000 fine because I did actually get insurance that same night I got pulled over but I’m also aware that not every court is as merciful and honestly just going through the anxiety and stress of it all the days leading to court just wasn’t worth it. Also it’s very irresponsible and reckless too and you’re also playing yourself because even if you are a good driver, you can get in an non-at fault accident and the cops will know if your vehicle is insured anyway and what if something happens to where you need roadside assistance?

What can I do if the cop gave me a ticket for no insurance but in the company van. They want the company to show proof and I can’t do anything. I have been waiting for 3 weeks and nothing. They set a court day 😡

In Alberta. Police have special cameras hooked up to mobile computers that can run your plate to see if you have insurance, stolen car, stolen plates or fake duplicate plates. Then the police will stop you and demand proof of adiquate insurance. Failure to produce insurance results in immediate car impoundment, arrest and a $10, 000 fine and 6 month license suspension. Failure to pay the fine inside a month puts your car up for police auction under civil forfeiture laws.
