The growls were used for horace the hate bug herbie’s evil twin from the 1997 version of the love bug.

I didn't know James McDonald also did this sound. Candy Candido and Clarence Nash were also credited for doing this kind of sound in The Jungle Book and The Fox and the Hound (Clarence just did some for the latter though).

I thought Candy Candido did the growling and roaring sounds for Nero and Brutus and the Bear _(The Fox and the Hound)_ and Bagheera and Shere Khan and the Bear _(Fancy & Fancy Free)_
