Sluggo Disclaimer: There is some controversy around Sluggo products. I'm still doing some research myself but there is a chance that Sluggo contains a synthetic inert ingredient called EDTA. We would suggest using Sluggo and similar products sparingly and focusing on the health of your plants and soil as a first protection method.

This was so timely! We are definitely experiencing this "apocalypse" here too! They have eaten most of our seeds resulting in hardly any germination, now I see the few plants left are getting eaten as well. There are literally thousands of them everywhere! We'll definitely be trying this!

THANK YOU! More pill bugs than I've ever seen this year! I think they came in the dirt I bought at Lowe's. I didn't know they ate plants . . . now I do! Whew!

I also had a lot of success by planting garlic in my strawberry patch.

I was really happy to see your video and realize that it wasn't just us and something we had done wrong. We had a pillbug apocalypse last fall in our high tunnel. They were prolific, and chewing off our little seedlings we had planted for our winter garden. We thought it was because of poor soil management, and resolved to plant the tunnel with a summer cover crop mix this year, which we are still going to do. We tried everything we could think of for the pill bugs, including diatomaceous earth, which didn't phase them at all. I didn't think about the plastic cup collar, although they were already taking over our plant stems. We had hundreds of plants and that would have been a lot of cups. We finally did end up trying Sluggo Plus, as well as cheap beer in shallow containers placed on the ground. (We don't drink beer, but the pillbugs seem to love it, and the containers would be full of them the next morning.). These 2 measures got them under control. All in all, we did lose several plants but still had a good winter harvest. Whew! Also, Paul, we had used shredded leaves as a mulch in the tunnel last summer, and we wondered if this had caused an increase in pillbug reproduction? Would you recommend or discourage the use of mulched leaves in the tunnel?

Thank you for this info. Just ordered some sluggo plus. Our garden beds are infested and quite a few seeds didn’t sprout this year. I now know why

I have never had an infestation of pill bugs until this year. I have lost most of my green beans and strawberries. I am trying oranges, diatomaceous earth and neem. I will try Sluggoplus too.

I had this problem for years, mainly because I live in a desert and was converting hydrophobic soil, so the only moisture they could get was from my plants. What worked best for me was to put something like a potted plant or plank of wood or something else that would trap moisture under it next to the plants I wanted to protect. This was a much preferable hideout for them, and they could munch away on rotting leaves or whatever is under there. Supposedly these guys also remediate toxins in the soil. If true, then I welcome their work!

Also if you set beer/yeast traps it will attract some of the pill bugs (and slugs) and they will drown.

What about food grade diotamacious earth ( not sure if I got the spelling right )
I’ve started chopping up onions and placing them around the plant ..I was going to throw in the towel with the strawberries between the pill bugs…the robins and the squirrels 🤦‍♀️🙄🙏🙄💕
