Glad for your share. I'm an older man, 64, with a love of Victorian Lit. Have read much Gaskell and Finishing up Ruth.

My favourties are Wives and Daughters, Sylvia's Lovers and Lois the Witch.

Have read a lot of her. People forget the way her work was published. A few chapters a month over a year or so. In the 21th century it's to gobble the work over a few days.

Thanks for this tour of Mrs Gaskell's canon. My journey through her works is still at its early stages and, so far, I have read only 'Cranford' and 'North and South' - although 'Mary Barton' is on my TBR list for 2024. I loved 'Cranford' and so fell under the spell of its charm that I immediately re-read it. However 'North and South' had so much more to it than mere charm and it immediately became one of my favourite Victorian novels (which is why 'Mary Barton' has been lined up for exploration in 2024).

I do love Cranford - one of my favorite classics. I am still working my way through the rest of her works.

This is exciting!! I'm gradually working through her books and I love her! I'll be reading my first full length novel by her in April with Kate's Patreon (Ruth). I've read The Moorland Cottage and the short story The Grey Woman. Really enjoyed both.

Thanks for a great review I'm just starting out with her books, read Cranford last year and loved it. Now I can't wait to read the rest. Her biography of Charlotte Bronte is on my February tbr, I'm reading the Brontes as well this year. Excellent video 😊

I just finished my 4th re-read of N&S (that's how much I love it!) and discovered so many new ideas and themes. If you like audiobooks, Juliet Stevenson does an amazing read of it, and makes the dialect understandable. I have yet to read Sylvia's Lovers and Wives and Daughters, so your comments are making it sooner rather than later. Two short stories (more like novellas) I love and find comforting (yet bittersweet) are The Moorland Cottage and Cousin Phillis. Enjoy!
