No arrogance, speaks to us with the same curiosity & sense of wonder we all have. My favorite space cadet 🌏💫⚡️💥

This question has haunted me since I was a child. I still can't wrap my head around it and I'm 53.

I have pondered this since I was a child. I remember looking up at the stars, and asking myself questions that just blew my mind. I hope I get the answers some day. I don't think anyone on this planet will have the answers I want.

The only thing we know for certain, is that we don’t know.

If you went outside with a candle at night, you would illuminate an area. But you would have no idea to the greater extent of things.

This is an amazing short - so much packed into it to last lifetimes!

there is a beautiful bit of wording in the german wikipedia site for the observable universe:

"Events and objects beyond the cosmological event horizon are not causally related to humanity. No information can reach mankind from there."

it loses a bit in the translation, but its still beautiful.

Space amazes me and at the same time I am completely confused by it all.

I like that he's being careful to not say too much... but he doesn't actually give a reason for saying 'it could be infinite'. I think it has to be infinite, because the end of space is unthinkable. But that's not a observation based reason... that's a conceptual reason. So... if a physicist is going to say 'infinite', I'd like to know whether he has vagued off into philosophy or not.

It's like looking at two mirrors facing each other. You can see how far the visual reflections and then you you know it can keep going further.

What perplexes me is:- what was here before space? Blows my little mind

Fun fact : if humans couldn’t see, just the eyes were missing . We would have progressed nothing .

It’s scary to think that with everything we can see far outside of our own galaxy and Local Group, we have no idea how much of that stuff still exists and if some of it no longer existed, what would it actually look like now compared to what light is currently showing us hundreds and thousands to millions of years in the past.

yes you take this universe that is here into account and then you start to count all the possibilities for all the possible timelines within these laws of physics. you see that there is no limit to anything
