My favorite kill screen is minecraft (Beta 1.7.3) AKA: The Far Lands

I have gotten to round 100 as a kid, though I cheated by my friend holding right the whole time. When we got to round “0” We were like “ What Happened, Did we play for too long?” Years later, I have learned My cartridge wasn’t just fucked up in some way, It was the programmers.

In asteroid (I think) their is one level where there are two huge asteroids that cave in on you before you can even move and all you actually CAN do is watch your ship count go down

The most interesting kill-screen of which I've ever read was in Dig Dug. Upon reaching I THINK level 256, the game loads enemy data from the wrong place, causing a Puka to be placed directly on the start tile. Result: you die over and over until you lose all your lives. Interestingly enough, I read that the game is programmed to recognize when it's about to give a kill screen and loop back to level 156 instead, but in arcade cabinets, this program is DISABLED.

Only a few people in the world are good enough to make it to these screens. It takes hours.

Donkey Kong was remade for the GameBoy and it did get an actual ending.  Heck it has 9 extra worlds with the original 4 stages being known as World 0.  After beating Donkey Kong in World 9 The Tower you get an actual ending.  I guess it's better then Mario dying due to impossible time limits as the ending.

Most new games have a real ending. Kill Screens mostly happend on arcade games.
