Another important tip when levering / pulling out wall plugs with a screw and hammer put a flat piece of wood on the wall horizontally just below the wall plug so not damage wall when forcing out with pressure - most important especially with plasterboard walls as I learnt the hard way

Some good tips here. I always drill slightly deeper than the plug to allow dust to move into the space. Also I always have to hammer the plug into the hole for a tight fit. The brick seemed quite soft compared to the ones i encounter. If drilling a LARGE hole start with a smaller bit and work up. Big bits will then follow the hole and bore easier!

Why is it never mentioned that the drill shank should be cleaned and greased to preserve the life of the drill chuck?

Fucking lifesaver man! I saw this before I even drilled into my reinforced concrete wall and made the damn hole a little too big. Had no idea you could just add stuff to fill it

Hi I have had 3 attempts at putting the brackets up for my curtain pole, i went and bought a hammer drill bit yesterday and put it on hammer action but it still wont go in very far, i think it must have a lintel behind there, any ideas as to what else I can do, I am at my wits end lol

The only drill bits I have are the ones with the straight shanks, can I still use them for drilling in to brickwork or does the drill have to be in hammer mode?

Why use anchors and cheap screws after spending big bucks on a rotary hammer and sds plus bits? Why not use tapcons? Boggles my mind.
