Thanks for the tip. I've been drilling this brick for so long I felt I was doing something wrong. My masonry bit must be too thick to start out with.

Was hanging up our tv just recently and on my second screw I thought maybe I should use my smallest bit then went to my next bit and it was a lot easier. Especially since I was using a regular drill & ice water to keep the bit from getting too hot

On the last pass, if you go in half way on one side, then go all the way through from the other side there will be no blowout.

Its 100% a good tip. Just messed up the process after that tip and still blew out the brick just like it would've if you started with the 5/8.

I would drill from the outside in so any Blowout would not be on the brick. Also, drill on the mortar joint not the brick face. I like your idea of pilot hole first and wonder if after the pilot hole then drill halfway from both sides with larger bits to help avoid any blowout.

Your brick type comes into play on this as well. Some are better and less likely to blow out that others.

Or, as soon as you feel like your about to pop through just go slow with less pressure and let the drill bit eat.

True but bits are so damn expensive lol. $15+ a pop for these long ones. Cheaper than destroying the brick and block but still annoying for just one project. Lol.

The day of judgment is decisive and displays to all the seal of truth. He drilled from inside the house to the outside. When you do this you never know where you will come out on the brick. The better way of drilling this hole is from the outside to the inside. This way you never touch the brick but drill through the mortar. No need for 3 drill bits. They are not cheap
