Round and Small LCDs for Flight Simulator, X-Plane and Prepar3D

There are many ways to display instruments and gauges in our DIY Cockpits. Many have used Air Manager combined with large screens which can be filled up with instrument or gauge clusters, but sometimes this does not work out as expected. This is where Small or Round LCDs come into play. Due to their size and thin shapes, they can be installed anywhere and require very little energy to operate.
Unless otherwise stated, these are completely plug and play and require no additional hardware to function properly. Operating Systems treat these as independent displays and the resolution and orientation can be easily changed. Different instrument panels can be created in an application such as Air Manager, and these can be individually loaded into each LCD. If the Airplane's instrument can be popped out, these can also be moved over to the LCDs.

The round LCD I purchased on eBay and is model: TL021WVC03-B1324B. These are very hard to find in the United States and come with two components: 1) LCD monitor 2) Controller Card with interface ports (Mini or Micro USB for Power, and HDMI or Mini-HDMI for Video Source). They are plug and play, and this one in particular has a 480x480 resolution.

I had no idea that round LCd displays were even a thing. This is perfect for a simple and reliable gauge display that is remote from the standard gauge locations. Cheers and thanks for the links to the actual products.

Man I want to really thank you a lot for your recommendations. I had been struggling to build my stand by instruments for my DA42 simulator and the wide screens you shared are just perfect. Thank you

I found lots of cheap LCD screens on Amazon just like the ones shown in your link. My question is what else do I need to get them wired up besides just an LCD along with Air Manager. Nobody ever tells you what else you need.. clearly the LCD screen needs to be connected to some type of Adrouino right? And isn’t there some other circuit board you also need inbeteeen the screen and the adrounio? Please help!

@joshuamarius sounds like a great idea ! Out of interest though, how do you manage to have an individual (steam) gauge as pop-up window (to be put later on the lcd display) ? AFAIK it's not possible to have a single gauge displayed individually ... Using P3D for instance. Thanks !

But each of the gauges needs a display with a video input from the GPU, right? Usually GPUs have four independent video outputs. Would multiple GPUs be needed for a simple C152 or is there some other solution that I am not aware of?

This along with your other video on adding tablets etc, am I correct in that these still need airmanager? Or is spacedesk (I think that might be mentioned in your other video?)

Air Manager was a great improvement in immersion but this could take it to a seriously higher level. Joshua, thanks but could you make a more detailed video? This one raised more questions than provided answers.

Where can you source them? I found a lot on Amazon but is that the best marketplace for this?

Does each one have to have it’s own connection? Do you simply have a 10 or 20 port USB hub?

Can Air Manager support enough screens (I’m estimating about 20 on a small GA aircraft.

What other hardware is needed? Some of the ones on Amazon come with an arduino, some without.

If it has an arduino, is it plug and play?

Thanks for alerting us to this. I might just buy one off of Amazon to play with it. If you have built a panel or cockpit with these, then a video on that would be appreciated. Thanks again.

If you use multiple round lcd’s where do they all get plugged into?

How many lcd can be run by 1 Arduino. ? E.g. if i want 3 instrument display panel how many Arduino is needed? If these lcd have HDMI we can just extend the monitor right? Then Wht is the use of Arduino ?
