Mark Agnesi is back to talk about the brand new Les Paul Modern from Gibsons new “Modern Collection.”

The new Gibson Les Paul Modern incorporates many contemporary updates that players have embraced such as lighter-weight bodies and innovative slim taper neck with asymmetrical profiles.

The Modern fingerboard is crafted with genuine ebony and a compound radius for lower, and cleaner action. The neck/body joint features the new Modern contoured heel for effortless access to the highest frets as well as maximum sustain and stability.

Hardware upgrades include Grover locking Rotomatic tuners, clear top hat knobs and BurstBucker Pro and BurstBucker Pro + pickups. The control assembly features 4 push-pull pots to switch between the Gibson humbucker and the single coil P90 sounds, both of which have defined so many genres of music across multiple generations since we invented them, phase switching and pure bypass for functional and versatile sonic variety.

The new Gibson Les Paul modern is here to shape sound for future generations.

Good on Gibson for fixing the error from the previous upload of this video. That's what we like to see!

I really dig into the new specs.

- Compound radius - Fantastic!
- Heel contour like Axcess! Superb! This is a major issue on all Les Pauls
- Ebony rather than Richlite! Love it!
- Slim asymmetrical profile neck - Like all Music Man, it sounds really good. Can wait to put my hands on it.
- Coil-splitting and phase switching. Just Ok, can be useful for a lot of players.
- Bypass: Really curious about it.

- Ultra modern weight relief. I don´t like that too much, but gotta play it before judging

New models look great Mark, but I have just one question for you. Have you guys fixed the QA issues that were painfully evident on the 2018 and early 2019 models. I have a standard 2018 in cobalt burst. Great sound, but the binding on both neck and body have noticeable imperfections, that is, poor wood to binding fit, plus very noticeable tool-marks . Besides, the trapezoid inlays do not rest flush on the fretboard, so you can clearly feel their edges when you pass your finger across the board. All of these imperfections are unacceptable in a USD 2000 + instrument. Again, I think you are making a great effort to bring back the LPs to their former glory; however, if I am ever going to buy another LP, fit and finish should be at par with something like PRS or even Epiphone for that matter.

Love it.
Only improvement missing is a neck volute to minimize the weak point of all Gibsons.

So coil tapping the Burstbucker Pros turn them in to a P-90? Never heard that before is this something new? I've seen older reviews on Burstbucker Pros being tapped and they say it has a single coil type of sound. Usually everyone prefers splitting vs tapping...I think you can choose splitting or tapping with the moderns. If it's really a P-90 and a humbucker that would be great, but unless this is a newer version of the Burstbuckers tapping that's not what all the other reviews or overviews have said. Tapping usually has a spot on the winds that can tap or stop the rest of the windings so I'm not sure how that can make a P-90 that is usually wider and the magnets are set up different etc.

The True Bypass is great but doesn't it bypass the volume as well? All the guitars I have with bypass switches bypass everything...No tone or volume it just goes MAX out.

I really would like a Modern but it seems like the guitar shop I buy from can't get this information for me.

I just talked to Gibson and the Bypass does not go to the volume...it's straight out the jack.
Tapping the Burstbucker Pros does not turn them into a Gibson P-90. It get a single coil type of sound a little different sound than split...still a type of single coil sound.

Bought my Pelam Bluey based on this video. Couldn't remember what all the push/pulls did so I came back for a review. I usually keep it in flame-thrower mode. :)
