Curt goes over how to measure the tail housing on a Ford AODE or 4R70W when ordering a new transmission.
It's very critical to get the correct measurement when you order your product. There are different tail lengths depending on your application.
There are two different tail lengths on two-wheel-drive applications and they are either 10 1/4" or 11 1/4"
An incorrect measurement will not give you enough room for the driveshaft or the drive shaft will be short and cause sonic vibrations.
You will measure from the casting and this is where the actual tail housing meets the case to the casting of the tail not to the end of the seal or the end of the boot or output shaft.

I read 10.5" and 11.25", but the difference is negligible. Great video, btw.

Are you measuring from the flat surface where they bolt together to the flat surface on the end where the seal is installed?

If i am building from ground up and plan on doing a new driveshaft... Whats the logic to figure out how long my tail housing should be?
