The Napoleonic Wars were a devastating European conflict that raged for more than a decade, as French Emperor Napoleon took on a coalition of France's enemies. And though his military genius helped him to win victory after victory, in the end - with most of Europe marching against him - defeat proved inescapable.

The french surrender in WW2 overshadows the fact the french once a force to be reckoned with. Even in WW1, we can thank them and the unconciousable amount of dead young men for the containment of germany.

Whenever I think of Napoleon and his times it doesn't seems like I am studying history. It seriously seems as an Epic Mythical lore or Greek tragedy.

Fun fact: most of these wars were defensive wars for France (except Spain and Russia 1812)

From a nobody to a bloody Emperor who in his wars had left the continent of Europe in turmoil but shaped the new Era of military warfare, countries being overthrown, and finally the amazing laying seeds of future learning of his tactics of which both helped in the American Civil War, WW2, and the study of war on tactics, intelligence, and logistics, it's these seeds that shaped the world we know today.

Napoleon didn’t really seek French domination of Europe. It was the coalition that started the wars on him and he beat them so acquired land as a result of this as compensation. There was no pre existing plan to conquer the continent.

Hitler didn’t read history carefully enough. He repeated Napoleon’s mistake.

Napoleon unleashed a war on the Iberian Peninsula in order to subjugate Portugal and Spain, which was already loyal to him, in a bloody way. Then he got involved in Russia to get rid of a powerful competitor. But, according to some Bonapartists, Napoleon did not want to dominate Europe) It looks like he was doing it all for fun XD
