In the states everyone celebrates Dr. Seuss Day but we always celebrated Roald Dahl Day 🙂. My daughter and I are so excited to see this and we're disappointed that it was on HBO MAX, but I did find that I can download the app and watch for free since I already pay for HBO on cable. Great review with your adorable son!

Great review/comparison! I'm a big fan of the original, but I'll give this one a shot. That CGI does look pretty jarring, though!

I really disliked it, lame CGI and they destroyed the big scene. Thank God I have the original to watch.

The cgi was pretty bad. Even the cat. Also the transformation scenes was not as good as the old version

I Would Rather The Original 1990 The Witches

I personally prefer the 1990 version of The Witches movie. Mainly cause Angelica Houston’s performance as the Grand High Witch is unrivaled, she can just walk in a room, not say anything, and you can automatically tell that she’s a bad guy (no offense Anne Hathaway) the special effects was better, and Jim Henson’s puppetry was awesome. The 2020 version... I’m sorry but I hate it. The CGI was horrible, Anne looks like she’s trying to hard to be evil, and I hate that ‘Joker’ jagged smile they gave her.

Disappointed with this one. I liked parts of it. Octavia Spencer was really good and and the best part. Anne Hathaway did'nt fit the role well. The CGI, acting and design was a mixed bag mostly on the bad side. The original just was way way better, but then again its really only the target audience that matters. If you have good memories of the book or movie then revisit the original rather. Damn it.

Watched it today as a fan of the original. It was ok, thought the racial undertones were unnecessary near the beginning with the hotel being shocked to see black people staying there rather than just working there and the manager talking to the grandma and boy like a kids film about witches ffs. Didnt like the ending with Bruno’s parents not wanting him lol, but wasnt aware thats how the book ended till this review. My kid enjoyed it which is the main thing i guess lol, cant beat Rowan Atkinson doe

It was defo not as good as 1990 version, I thought Anne played a great part, shame the cgi was terrible and they used it far too much
