Despite never being built, outside of one reported wooden mockup of the rear turreted variant, the Lowe was the first in a line of designs which led to the German super heavy tanks like the E-100 and Maus. Join me today as I do my best to break down the complex development of this design as it progressed.

Germany: No, No. This won’t do, we need something *heavier!*

Transmission: *life is pain*

Oddly of all the super heavy tanks the only one that 'might" have worked was the Lowe... still what a mess...

I like how this tank could’ve been actually decent and fairly reasonable considering German standards, but they kept increasing the standards to make it impossible to realistically design

And as crazy as the Lowe was... it was absolutely sane next to the E-100 and Maus.

soooo basically the löwe was scrapped and some of the ideas culminated in the design of the Tiger II

This is another example of the observation: “A camel is a horse designed by committee.”

Kinda wish they went with this instead of the maus so we could've had it in war thunder

Edit: To everyone saying just play WoT. I know it's there. I used to play WoT. No I'm not going back to it anytime soon.

I am amazed at how many designs the Germans condemned to using that Maybach engine. The S-Boat engine would have been ideal, from a power perspective. Good ideas destroyed by cronyism and Herr Mustache.

I’ve always liked the Lowe, it had a nice rounded design compared to other German heavies. It’s like… smooth Tiger I… blursed
If gaijoob had this as an event vehicle I’d definitely need to get it

From a tiger to a lion, germany making a whole zoo with these names

Safe to say this design didn't get much Löwe.

I have always had a soft spot for the Lowe. The designs drafted up just make it look so good - that pinched, rounded turret is a thing of beauty coming out of a country that loves their boxes with guns.

I personally love this tank design asthetically it's very pleasing to the eyes in it's WOT form

Hitler: “CHECKMATE STALIN I HAVE SUPERHEAVY TANKS”

Stalin: “I have working tanks.”

Hitler: “Ah scheiße…”

I think the Lowe is the most aesthetically pleasing of the super heavy designs to come out of the war.

Germany in WWII:

Hmm, that might be an okay design
Wait, we need *EVEN BIGGER*

Design fails a year later

Those of us who have played World of Tanks never forget that nigh-impenetrable front mantle.
