Thank you, great tips!

I use a really high quality cotton towel from Gilden Tree, which I destroyed by oiling up my skin before drying off out of the shower. The towel absorbed this oil over time and it started smelling terrible, like a rancid oil smell. I did everything to try to clean it - bleach, soaking in vinegar, putting out in the sun...over and over and nothing worked. I eventually had to replace it with a new towel. I stopped using the oils after the shower and before drying off, and haven't had an issue since.

Fabric softener, especially swavitel, is a staple in a Hispanic home not so much because of softness but because of the delightful smell.

Thanks for the post. My favorite towels are pretty thin, tightly woven Turkish cotton bath towels. When I lived in Istanbul, Turkey where I would go to the Turkish hamam every week with Turkish girlfriends we would go every Saturday or Sunday for basically a full spa experience, there were always these tall stacks of towels in all different pastel colors basically the towels were bath towel size, with tassels hanging off of each end and a thin white stripe running across in lines all up and down each towel. So I got loads of those towels when I live in Turkey they, with my large fluffy white Turkish cotton monogrammed hooded bath robe are my favorite things for a Turkish hamam like spa experience every day in my home in Washington, DC. I do the laundry for my boyfriend and I and I usually do a light load of wash and a dark load of wash every week, sometimes more if we have overflowing laundry hampers!

No staff, but a bath towel was used ONCE & dropped into the laundry chute my mother installed between 1st floor & the basement laundry area (she made it her business to learn carpentry + numerous other construction skills).

All good points but I like washing towels on HOT then dry them on Medium Temp for longer rather than cooking them on hot - they turn out nice & soft even with det. & in wash fab softer 😊

Thanks for the tips. I’ve been using to much fabric softener and detergent. Need to find ways to hang for 3 adults in a small bathroom. They don’t dry properly and start to smell.

We wash our towels one a week. I cut the towel and use them to wash and dry my 🚘 car.

When towels get stiff and don't absorb anymore it is because they are holding old soap from the body among other skin cells and fabric softener... here is a challenge for you... take those clean towels from the cupboard and fill the washer with hotter water add couple of cups white vinegar and about half cup washing soda...borax works let soak for 10 to 15 mins then continue.... if you remember add about half cup white vinegar to rinse cycle ... dry in dryer or hang to dry ..windy day is great! ... now all the old dirt is gone towels are bright fresh and absorb again!! ( after the first heavy duty wash I use warm water)

if you only use washing soda and vinegar after that to wash your towels they will always be odor free and absorbent, soft too. after the first wash just use half to one cup vinegar depending on load size and half cup vinegar in rinse. I also always use vinegar in rinse of all other clothes... removes all soap and deodorizes clothes... I never use dryer sheets or softener in my laundry,
never smells of I have been doing this for 50 years... back when we washed diapers it was a godsend.... hope this makes sense and helps someone along the way...vinegar is an amazing product for so many things.... inexpensive too!
