After a lifetime as a craftsman with a lot of filing experience, I came to the conclusion that the filing advice you were given is nothing but an old wives tale. Rolling forwards with the curve, as you did, is easier, more intuitive and easier to control more accurately.

You are all rugged up, is it cold over there! It's 38C over here!

Yes, the micrometer trick...i went straight to my calipers to see for myself...slick, very slick indeed.

I appreciate the amount of time spent doing things others would regard as pointless. Its what makes all the difference at the end. Sick Project Mate

Thanks again, Paul! Another great video! Kudos to Mitch as well! Thanks for demonstrating the filing technique, too! The most important part of that is finding what works for YOU! And you've done it! Looking forward to the next episode!!!

Awesome micrometer trick, I can’t even imagine how many times that would’ve come in handy in the past. Thanks for putting out your videos. Gotta get started on my Sprints, SS’s and SX’s soon.

That clutch basket was very close to E4 according to my guitar tuner.

Nice work. I think the company was bought by Harley Davidson sometime in 1970-74. It was fun to come to an HD club with a 125cc motorcycle.

Another great video my Brodie’s shop coffee mug arrived today in little old England and not only does it keep my tea warm but also one English pint of beer cold!!!
All the best
Jon.

I have a selection of ball bearings that come in handy when your trying to mic an odd piece. That bike looks better every video, can't wait to see it done and hopefully a test ride.

Thank you Paul for sharing your videos and expertise. If I may Sir, Auto Meter does have a line of M/C related instruments called, Pro-Cycle. These may help you with a future build. Excellent job as well Mitch !

Fireball tool made a video about files and there is no need for any explanation about back-dragging. Thank you Paul & Mitch for the interesting videos

If you've got a DRO or a digital scale on your mill quill, you can put a rod with either a flat or radiused end on it in chuck or collet and clamp another in your vice and line them up and zero the reading when they touch and use it like a big pair of digital calipers it that description makes sense to you. The contact points can be shaped for special applications. The guy I learned it from was deepening valve relief pockets in a set of pistons and wanting to know how thin they were getting, so full credit goes to him.

Whoohoo! First comment! :)

As always, thank you Paul & Mitch. You mention sharpening your center drill. Do you have a tool & cutter grinder? That would be a fabulous episode.

Great stuff as usual! I personally love the sound of a ringing clutch bell, always funny hearing a dry clutch for the first time. I would second Alan Lapps comment on an episode involving sharpening!

The (impish) grin when Paul proudly announces a weight saving of nearly an ounce after a huge amount of work is priceless... Fill your tyres with hydrogen, professor... Excellent stuff, sir, as we have come to expect...

Paul, you would hate my bikes! They are much heavier when I am done with them! lol

I love a guy that was nearly as weight losses on his bike as I was on my speed hill climb mini

I forget if your running a dry or wet clutch but either way you could also 'perforate' the outer drum and inner hub to allow friction disc dust to get out quicker.
It was a 'tuning' mod for several years on various bikes, even the manufacturers used it as a 'feature' saying they had increased the diameter of through holes.
On Japanese bikes where oil is fed through gearbox shafts from one end and exits at clutch, increasing the flow helps keep clutch plates cooler plus has a flushing action
.It doesn't cause clutch slip as the plates were designed to be 'wet ' (quite difficult to explain it to several of the people I worked with back then
I've been doing it since the late 1970's on various bikes whenever I did clutch work as they always used to be 'solid' and you could see the build-up on the inside of clutch basket after a few thousand miles
