Excellent advice Wrel. I try to go through life with the motto “Perfect is the enemy of good, ” otherwise things will never get finished haha.

Making a whole RPG is a giant accomplishment and you should be proud.

Also I should say I’ve been watching you for like…12 years now and you’ve brought a lot of joy along the way :). Wishing you the best in the new year

What a surprisingly perfect video the algorythym decided to drop on me. Currently leaving a 4 year job I love the people at to get further in the baking field, and unsatisfied with 5E's take on DnD. Love how gritty it sounds from the link video as a fan of horror settings and the in depth lineage and backstory reminds me of traveler, I can see some detailed session 0's enabling the DM's to make connections between characters easier. I will absolutely be digging into this.

As my best friend often reminds me, perfect is the enemy of good. I take that saying for granted a lot, but I've come to realize: Just because I understand the phrase doesn't mean I don't need to be told it. The years in game design have taught me that 'Good enough' and the pursuit of excellence are not only not at odds, but essential partners. That goes not just for projects, but jobs, careers, and sometimes even life directions.

Does one truly move on?

Sometimes you sit by yourself and remember all the things that happened to you, even if these things happened a decade ago.

Then you look at the current moment and say "it is what it is".

I like the truism that “Art is never finished, only abandoned”

Also appreciate you stopped when the video was good, instead of going on a 30 min deep dive

Hey Wrel, It's good to see you after so many days. I've always enjoyed your Thoughts on better gaming series, and this one reminded me of that.

Harumph, that's some classic life advice.
Makes me think just last weekend I heard Frank Frazetta's granddaughter talking about how later in life his wife had started taking away some of his art pieces because he would try and go back and alter them or redo them even though they had been previously "finished" or "published" (and in some cases he made them subjectively worse).
Perfection is a dangerous desire not only because you might never finish or mismanage time on small portions of the larger project, but because the consideration of how long it could take to reach an envisioned "perfect" state might stop one from ever even starting. In my life, I've fell into all those traps, haha.

My new year resolution was to publish my game, and I did so about a week ago. It felt awesome, but also anxious at the same time seeing how it was hardly playtested at all and got nearly no proofreading. I can update it though, I can improve it with updates in the future, and also expand it.

Perfect is an enemy of finished. I wish everyone good luck with finishing their projects!

I still think back to your thoughts on better gaming videos with semi-regularity. I don't know if it was a tipping point or just an ingredient, but I think getting less angry at games (particularly PvP) came from your advice. I still think about the children fighting on the bus story whenever I'm getting extra bitter for surface level observations.

this year has been a bit tough for me getting laid off .. having nothing done for about 5 or so months but just jobhunting, still no girlfriend with 40
at least for next year i am covered on my jobside of things, and honestly having changed jobs is definitively for the better as my last employer was simply garbage with promising to be able to work myself up the careerladder when there were very limited positions already long taken and only working for minimumwage, yea 4 years of that is more than enough ...
so moving on was more or less just a matter of time anyway ..
who am i working for? .. well for myself, basic financial coverage ..
hope next year i get better results

I appreciate this advice.

Unrelated note: I just tried recording a video of my own recently and found it very difficult to discuss something with minimal stutters, "ums", and awkward posture/facial quarks. How many takes did it take you to execute this 3 minute clip without goofing something up?
