Acute Pancreatitis - Quick Bites Internal medicine (Gastroenterology)

Acute pancreatitis is sudden inflammation of the pancreas.
Gallstones and alcohol abuse are common causes.
Clinical presentation includes severe epigastric pain, nausea, vomiting, and elevated serum amylase and lipase levels.
Complications can include pancreatic necrosis, pseudocysts, infection, and multi-organ failure.
Diagnosis relies on clinical history, physical examination, serum enzyme levels, and CT scans.
Severity assessment can be done using Ranson's criteria and APACHE-II score.
Treatment involves supportive care, NPO (nothing by mouth) status, pain control, and addressing underlying causes.
In severe cases, surgical or drainage procedures may be necessary.
