In a setback to the BJP's mission in South India, AIADMK ends its alliance with the BJP in Tamil Nadu. The resolution was unanimously passed in the meeting by AIADMK leaders to break the alliance with the BJP. Meanwhile, the BJP says that they are less bothered by the breakup as Annamalai has worked hard to get the party into double digits. "We have never commented on division in the India bloc, but we have seen it during the recent Bypolls. You also understand that Gathbandhan Dharma was coined by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and the NDA has been a rainbow collation with 20+ parties, and we are still the biggest collation in the country with a large footprint", says Guru Prakash, BJP Leader. "If I were to say that Mr. Vajpayee was first introduced to Tamil people by Mrs. Jayalalithaa, the first alliance was in 1998, which actually had a resounding victory", says political analyst Kishore Swamy.
