We hope you enjoy our little experiment, nearly two months in the making. Let us know if you'd like to see more crystal growing and if you've ever tried it yourself.

Be careful not to leave them out in a hot sun because the water evaporates leaving a powder clump. Learned that as a teenager with my mineral collection at a town fair!

You could wash the crystals off with an organic solvent to clean them (a liquid that doesn't dissolve the crystals), then place the crystals in an evacuated bell jar for long-term observational enjoyment.

Wow, those crystals were amazing! I’ve done the same with Copper Sulphate, just keep filtering out the solution every week. Those you made look quite difficult and delicate. But wow. Talking of Dendritic, I have a large Emerald that’s Dendritic, it looks amazing under a microscope. Great video, thanks for sharing. Rog from Wales U.K. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

That was a very cool episode. I've tried growing crystals and the results were disappointing, but from watching your video, I now know what I did wrong so back to drawing board. Thanks Elizabeth!

When you make the saturated solution all of the chemical needs to dissolve and become clear. When the water evaporates the solution becomes supersaturated which forces the chemical to deposit as crystals. If you cover the aquarium with cloth to keep out dust which settles on the surface you’ll have less problem with crystals growing on the surface and dropping on the top of the main specimen. If you prop the actual specimen on an inverted small glass it’ll keep the bottom growth from impinging or hang by a thread from a pencil to suspend above the bottom also. The growth can be adjusted to make hopper growth too which looks like steps around the crystals. Great video though, I used to grow them when I was a kid and loved it, copper sulphate, table salt and sodium thiosulphate ( alum)

Thanks for the fun video. I did this once with globerite in a decorated bottle. The crystals were gorgeous for a couple of years. Then mysteriously dissolved back to brine. Will try again.

To prevent breakage could you line the jar or vessel with a type of wax paper to lift the crystal out, like a cupcake?

This could be something really cool to attach to Warhammer bases or something.

Whao, this crystal growing experiment video is amazing.😯😃 It's very interesting to see how to create them👩‍🔬🧫💎 and what they look like at the end. My favorite is the last big crystal. Thanks for showing us.👩‍🏫🙂💎

Late to the party here. I love crystals of all forms and, I so enjoyed this video. I work with resins and love using pigments of all types and was wondering if they would combine in the crystal growth and if so, which types work better. Or by using different types of impurities like chromium in trace amounts would they grow green like an emerald. One of my favorite resin casts was a large green 6-sided barrel growing from a black matrix.

They're all awesome, you should have put some drops of green food colouring in and you'd have Kryptonite!🤣😂👍

I have a crystal hedgehog I made that uses this process! I bought it at my local museum just out of support so I just did the process once. However, I wish I knew that I could just repeat the process on the same crystals!

Good tip on the Alum, I was going to try 1straight up, another with added epsom salt and the last one a mix of epsom & hydrated lime.
