Here in India shopkeepers don't have apistos cause mostly are overpriced so our fish keeper trying kribensis one and people liked that one also

I thought an apistogramma might be a fun centerpiece fish to try for my 20 long, alongside a shoal of tetras, but I think kribensis might be a hardier alternative

Both are very similar in appearance and behavior imo, but with plenty of distinctions of course

Everything I’ve read on these guys is that a single pair or a male with a few females is all that should be in a tank together but I’m wondering if different apistos would do okay if I gave each male a couple females of his species? Is there risk of hybridization? There’s so much variety in color and I’d love to put a couple strongly contrasting colors in the same tank but I don’t want aggression issues.

Love this Jason, Literally spent this morning deciding if I should try a pair of apisto's. I currently have a 20 long with 8 harlequins and 3 Otociclus.

I added an A.Agassizii to a tank that already had an A.Hongsloi. The Hongsloi did NOT take that well. His reaction from the very start was a firm "Absolutely NOT". From the moment Agassizii went in the Hongsloi chased him down and started tail slapping him.

Luckily I had another tank ready to go so had somewhere to put the Agassizii

I’d love to add them to my heavily planted 20 long but also have six peppered cories (as well as some schooling fish). I understand that would not be a good set up for the cories. Any alternative? My other choice is Bolivian ram, a single or a pair.

They're hard to find a good supplier. I wish more locals would take the effort to breed them.

how much do you recommend keeping in a 25 gal? I have the aquascaper 600 so its 60x50x36 cm. I'd say pretty wide swim space considering they are bottom dwelling cichlids. also i have lots of hardscape and plants blocking the view from each fish across the tank
