STEAM CONSOLE TAKES ON PS5!

According to recent rumors and findings from various Valve data miners, the Washington-based company is working on a new traditional system known has “Fremont” along with the Steam Controller 2 and Deckard VR headset.

In a series of posts on social media, Valve insider Brad Lynch posted what he considers to be signs of the new SteamOS hardware.

First, he discussed why it couldn’t be a dock for current devices like the Steam Deck. Lynch said that the evidence suggests a full-size HDMI port being hardwired to the card directly as opposed to being connected via USB-C.

“All references to Fremont ensure checks for a full-size HDMI Type-A port you’d see on TV-focused consoles and other desktop computers that don’t have a dedicated GPU with its own HDMI ports,” Lynch said.

In other data areas, it shows AMD Lilac board being used for development while the final board is completed with firmware specifically developed for this new device being worked on as well. It’s also shown that Quanta Computer, the manufacturer of the Steam Deck, is providing feedback on the new system.

SteamOS is Branching Out

This Amazing Looking Game will Probably Run on Deck

While there aren't any upscalers listed, he posted the target resolution and frame rates for consoles and listed AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution as being used on the Xbox. This does mean that we will most likely have FSR on the PC release as well, and I wouldn't be surprised if we also had XeSS and DLSS as options. Hopefully, they will be the updated versions of these tech, but time will tell.

Everything else for the Minimum/Low specifications is within the Steam Deck's playability, but just barely. AMD Ryzen 5 2600 CPU, NVIDIA GTX 1060 GPU, and 16GB RAM are all within what the Deck can handle, but it can still result in lots of drops if not optimized well. But if we take upscaling into account and the fact that the minimum target is 1080p and not 800p, I believe this will be playable on the Steam Deck using FSR. We will still have to target 30 FPS, I can't see us being able to push it much higher, but I do believe it will be possible to stick to 30.

All of Us: SHUT UP AND GET MY MONEY

if they can make powerful hardware at a competitive price point it could become a titan in the console industry. People that have never gamed on a PC will be able to get all the advantages with basically none of the things they don't like about the platform. It could be very, very, VERY big. We'll have to wait and see but I think the jump from what they were trying to do with Steam Machines and what they actually did with the Deck is going to be very telling. I'd be excited to see a Steam set-top box under lock in a Walmart with a kid begging his parents for one.

I just rebuilt my PC and I’m running Bazzite on it. I will be getting a Steam Console day one. I got a great TV and a comfy couch

00:05 Don't play with my emotions like that. I see the glasses, I get excited, and then you immediately take them off. Just tear my heart right out of my chest why don't ya!?

The track pads are chef's kiss
If a device does not have track pads like steam deck I'm not bothering

I think the biggest issue people had with the current consoles on the market is that you couldn't carry over your previous library.

Steam basically solves that. You're guaranteed to be able to run all your previous games on future consoles.

The little tidbits of side knowledge you drop are great. One of my favorite things about your channel. You make tech digestible and approachable.

I started playing KCD this week as well. I laughed when you started talking about lock picking, because that is the exact same experience I had. Lock picking with the track pad is SO nice.

This would be something I’ll instantly pre order, just like the steamdeck when it was announced. If there is one eco system I would be fine being locked into, it’s Steam. With my deck and pc this would be the icing on the cake for the livingroom television

When Steam came out with the Steam Machine in 2015-ish, I bought the Alienware Steam Machine from Dell. It was awesome. My wife still uses it to play Stardew Valley. Big success to me.

Just by the naming convention of the steam deck, I'm thinking The home console is going to be named after a ship part. Deck, hull, stern, mast, or anchor has the best ring to it..and meaning, an anchor is used to secure A vessel to a bed of water... Their intention is to secure you the vessel to your couch for PC gaming😂... Watch it's going to be called the steam anchor...

Why is everyone forgetting the single best advantage of the Steam Console: Suspend/Resume streaming to your Deck or Dekcard.

A steam console would be awesome.
Gone are the days when I enjoyed faffing on a PC to max my frame rate. My desktop is for work (and you can’t beat a Mac mini for that), and my TV for entertainment.

I'll be honest, the reason I think the steamdeck was great was because the portability. I noticed I wasn't playing on my xbox as much as I used to after the steam deck, considering I could dock it and use the same screen I had with the xbox. Getting a steam console might be nice for graphics update, but I don't really think I'd be getting one at all. And valve is not the company I'd trust with digital-only games, if GOG Galaxy can make their marketplace hit consoles, then yeah, that would work.

I like the idea of Steam building an inexpensive base model that includes an eGPU IO like USB4 for those who would like to add a more powerful option themselves. Or, Valve could also develop their own GPU/storage docking station that could be an additional purchase. If they can keep a base model under $500 USD while also leaving open performance and storage expandability, I think that units would sell like crazy. I would certainly be all in on one.

this is what gaming should be not just on console but on pc or handheld as well, imagine owning 1 game and could be played on a console, handheld and pc would make single console gaming obsolete
