Domestic dove owner of twenty years here! There's a lot of misinformation in the comments. Thank you for holding him gently! If this dove really was stressed, he'd be wiggling to break free and would look squished. This male is very relaxed.

Pretty birds and very sociable. I have several of them hanging out in by backyard taking advantage of me. I throw several handfulls of wild bird seeds out into the yard every morning. Birds come from all over the neighborhood to have some snacks. I sit on my patio and I watch them forage through the grass to find the seeds.

I get jumpscares by mourning doves all the time because I don’t see them on the ground and they get scared. They’re still beautiful though and I love seeing them fly freely ❤
