Comping in Bitwig Studio 4

Bitwig Studio v4 introduces audio comping in both the Clip Launcher and the Arranger. In this walkthru, producer and educator Pat Cupo shows comp recording and editing, works with layered comping for synchronized audio editing, and uses "Fold to Takes" to transform any audio into a new idea. So comp the classic way or break the mold, all in Bitwig Studio.

Is there any option to use it with MIDI as well?

why comping doesn't work with midi?

All other DAW vendors be like 'sad face'. What a stunning architecture.

Also, love the complete trolling here 'Generative Patches' as a baseline feature. Bwahahaha. Absolutely Brilliant!

No comping for MIDI tracks? If not, Bitwig really missed the boat on this one.

This is great! Do we also get vertical zoom using the mouse wheel to adjust track height of a channel and to also see the entire project while doing our arrangement?

Bitwig please add more colors / shades for coloring track's and more options to adjust the overall look of the interface. Also coloring the whole track instead of those little lines on the left side would be great. Just my two cents. Keep up the good work!

I just tried this and there are a couple of questions I have:
- Can I have many of the comping takes on at the same time? That is one of the main features I need and cant figure out how to do that?
- Can I record midi with comping takes, -this is essential!-, is it possible?
- Also, the scene record bugged out for me (stopped recording after 1 bar, even though I changed the settings of clip launcher), so I had to record in arranger and then move to scene, where I can edit the clips and move them back to arranger if I want to have multiple different cuts/arrangements of the comping takes.

A sidepoint also; the scene overdub also didn't work, so recording on a clip only works once, then it can only be played. Really frustrating and sucks.

I really love this DAW, but sometimes there are limitations that just makes me feel bummed out. Maybe it is cause I don't know how to use the DAW fully, but haven't found any answers via googling either so yeah.

But anyways, the comping feature is nice and good work also with the Operators! :)

When are we going to get comping for MIDI? It makes no sense that this is audio only...

Thank you for this walkthrough! Is there a way to select quantized bits of the audio from the take lanes? such as 1/1, 1/4 etc

one problem. When you record (overdub) a section of a take it creates (inserts) a new clip over the old one that contained all takes. And everything becomes super messy: the lists of takes in the bigger clip and the insertion are different and the is no way you can consolidate them into one container (like in Ableton) so that you could pick among pieces of longer takes and the short overdubs. The same happens to all tails, when you stop playback at different points - so the clip containing takes becomes some monster you can do nothing about. You end up deleting everything and just recording one take. Is there a way to deal with this clutter mess ?

Hi! Thank you for your video. I have a query. After I record multiple takes and then if I try to change the gain from 0 zero to 15 on one take, it changes. Then if I change the gain on another take and come back to the previous one which I changed earlier then the gain is in normal. How do I set a constant, equal gain for all takes? Please help me out.

I have a request: I use Bitwig a bit like a loop station like this way:
So i record a loop into the clip-launcher: (i would be so nice if comping-length = loop-length in arrange window and not random comping length when you hit the rec-foot-switch)
1. set the comping length to the loop-length (-> is the Hotkeys?)
2. play to the beat to got some inspiration
3.hit the footswitch that is set to "play-clip" to start rec to loop
4.play
5.hit the footswitch again to stop rec and play that loop
so now my problem is: i want to play and rec Guitar dry and Fx-ch, so i need to rec 2 tracks at ones. Any solution to solve it? I think i would be nice, if the track-group-button can handle this in the future.
