Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., criticized the push by Republicans to nominate and confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court just weeks before the November presidential election, saying that “having a rushed Supreme Court nomination hearing is not normal and we cannot normalize it.” He said many Americans were scared that Barrett’s confirmation to the Supreme Court would result in the overturning of the Affordable Care Act because lawmakers “could not work through the democratic process to take away their health care.” He noted that many Americans have already started voting by using mail-in ballots amid the coronavirus pandemic, and argued that “the American people should decide” what kind of judge will sit on the Supreme Court next, rather than the current political party in power. Booker said he would not be voting to confirm Barrett’s nomination.
