The Senate Judiciary Committee convenes for Amy Coney Barrett's Supreme Court confirmation hearings, which start Monday and are expected to last four days. Barrett, 48, currently serves on the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and was nominated by President Trump for the Supreme Court seat vacated by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's death.

Barrett's confirmation process is likely to be a fierce political battle, as her appointment to the Supreme Court will further cement its conservative majority. The fight is set against the backdrop of the 2016 nomination of Judge Merrick Garland by then-President Barack Obama, which the GOP-controlled Senate blocked as they argued the voters should have a voice in who filled the vacant seat.

On Monday, Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham will deliver an opening statement, followed by Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein and the rest of the committee members. Senators will then have 10 minutes each to speak, alternating between parties. Following their remarks, Barrett will be introduced by Todd Young and Michael Braun, the two Republican senators from her home state of Indiana, as well as Professor Patricia O'Hara of Notre Dame Law School, where Barrett taught before her nomination to be a federal judge in 2017. Barrett will then be sworn in and deliver her opening statement.
