stop motion animators are actually just insane

Considering corpse bride is set during the late 19th century before pitching gets standardized it's fair to assume that the piano was indeed tuned half a step lower than modern pianos so hey bonus point for historical accuracy

as we can see the piano is a little bit destroyed, the piano also can be untuned (half step below). If that was the intention, it's a pretty amazing detail that they took care of.

The only problem with the piano duet in the movie is that it’s too short.

well of course they animated it correctly, this is one of the most technically impressive stopmotion animations there are

Oh yeah, Tim Burton had the animators work with Danny Elfman, the guy who wrote the music AND did the voice of Bonejangles, to make sure they got it right. It's in the special features on the DVD, right in Danny's commentary 😉

It's Tim Burton. He's very particular about his animations. I can totally see him trying to get every little thing as perfect as possible. ESPECIALLY with it being stop motion.

I feel like some animated movies always take the time and effort to get it right. Pixar's Brave for example. When she was shooting the arrow, the animation was actually correct and Pixar actually hired four or five different archers so the animators could study and watch them shoot arrows and could also learn about the bows and arrows and how they work. Kinda wish all movies would have this much attention to details.

Tuning changed from period to period, with the A440 standard being too recent for the apparent period of the movie, which instead would have probably been closer to A427 instead.

For those wondering: the clip wasn't pitched up for copyright reasons, it was already like that because the clip he got was taken from a PAL version of the film. And usually in those versions (mostly on DVD or TV airings), they speed the movie up by 4% to match the technological standards European countries have.

Animated correctly *and* in stop motion.
Truly a mindblower

If you're making claymation as detailed and beautiful as this, you're already paying attention to every little thing, so it makes sense they got this right

I think that when a pianist animates, it is animated correctly and when a normal animator is animating he does it wrong

Honestly, I'd be more surprised to know they didn't animate it correctly. Tim Burton seems like such an "attention to details" man.

Stop motion animators are insanely talented and pay close attention to detail, as other people mentioned the tuning is off because if the time period the movie is set in this makes even more sense considering one of my childhood heroes Tim Burton directed it

Stop-motion animators, especially ones in big movies like this, have SO MUCH PASSION for achieving accuracy and fine details wherever they can. It’s insane sometimes how far they’ll go.

the way the corpses bride has its characters look is magnificent, Tim Burton's movies are held in a very special place in my heart.

I'm not surprised, considering that this is Tim Burton we're talking about. Both he and the claymation crew he usually uses pays an incredible amount of attention to detail

In the opening scene Victor plays just a couple of notes to try the piano, those notes are a diminished chord but it sounds like a major chord. It's not accurate but I give it the meaning that Victor can turn something gloomy and sad into a bright element :)

It's pretty realistic. I played old pianos, which downed all their pitch on a half-tone
