Big Black Bee

A typical French Big Black Bee - very gentle, of the Carpenter type I don't' think that they sting but they do make a very loud noise. I love them! They will not damage wood in good condition and supposedly will use a bamboo tube for a nest. I believe only the females gather pollen, for their eggs, and the males just eat nectar. Their beautiful violet wings in the sun are just fantastic. We live near the point of Cap Frehel in Cotes d'Armor and see this fellow's relatives every day.

I didn’t even know such bees existed. I saw one today and got scared. It looked like a giant fly but it also looked like a bee! I was fascinated and scared cause I’ve never seen one. After researching it makes me happy to have been lucky to see one.

Thanks for sharing that video. We had one in our bathroom yesterday about the same size or slightly larger and couldn't figure out what it was. Just like you said in the video, it was all worn out trying to go through the frosted glass but we opened the window & finally managed to help it fly out.

They love to drill holes into old stump at my parent´s place. While nesting, we always look around if it´s still around :) Pretty nice neighbours!

for the past 10 to 15 years I have one of these black bee flying around of evry corner of my house evry summer *the black bee recognized me seen when I was a child in it comes visit my house evry summer*



I'm glad I haven't killed it in the first place seen like a good neighbour to me

These are called carpenter bees! They eat little bugs around and nest in bamboo or small wooden holes

Had a whole hive of these things at my grandmas house. They lived in a giant tree that was in her backyard. Eventually I stopped seeing them and haven’t seen one in the wild for a long time

I have had a swarm of them lately fighting each other around my patio. It's usually carpenter bees but it's been this black bee. They are big and intimidating.

0:30 as a person with a phobia of bee's the sound is so terrifing that i got jumpscared, tho the bee in my opinion does look beutiful the wings has a good colour, i see it alot they are scary for me

They are so common in the Middle East especially in the UAE where I live. I’ve been stung once . They make nests in poisonous plants
