My Eyes Adored You - Frankie Valli - Four Seasons - w/lyrics

"My Eyes Adored You" is a 1974 song written by Bob Crewe and Kenny Nolan. It was originally recorded by The Four Seasons in early 1974. After the Motown label balked at the idea of releasing it, the recording was sold to lead singer Frankie Valli for $4000. After rejections by Capitol and Atlantic Records, Valli succeeded in getting the recording released on Private Stock Records, but the owner/founder of the label, Larry Uttal, wanted only Valli's name on the label. The single was released in the US in November 1974 and topped the Billboard Hot 100 in March 1975. "My Eyes Adored You" also went to number 2 on the Easy Listening chart. Billboard ranked it as the No. 5 song for 1975.

The single was Valli's first number 1 hit as a solo artist on Billboard's Hot 100, and remained there for one week, being knocked out of the top spot by another Crewe/Nolan-penned song, "Lady Marmalade". Although it was released as a Valli solo effort, the song is sometimes included on Four Seasons compilation albums. It is from the album Closeup.

The success of "My Eyes Adored You" triggered a revival of interest in recordings by The Four Seasons. The band was subsequently signed to Warner Bros. Records as Valli's follow-up single "Swearin' to God" was climbing to number 6 on the Hot 100.

This song and these pictures give such an accurate description of me and my girlfriend when I was in Grade 6, and she was in Grade 5. I remember talking on the phone with her and felt so alone when we had to get off the phone. We skated together and walked around holding hands and talked. It was such a pure innocence in the love we had for each other. We were separated in lieu of serious operation where I was not expected to live so we lost contact and went our separate ways where she got married as did I in 1970. My wife passed away in 2018 and after the sorrow I went through I decided to see if my first girlfriend was still around. I was a bit afraid she wasn't but after contacting her brother 3 times by Face Book he finally passed the message on to my childhood girlfriend. We met for coffee, and she had not changed a bit, just like me. We felt like kids again and still do. We have been married for coming on 4 years now and this is a song describing our childhood love that is now our adult love. The innocent love we shared as kids basically bonded us and we are carrying on as if it was yesterday being the last time I saw her. My eyes adore her.

Probably the greatest "nostalgia song" of all time. No man can hear this song without thinking back to a past love, a first love, or a crush. For me, it was the girl right behind me in line at college freshman orientation on Day 3. She was everything I ever fantasized about. I worked so hard to get her to fall in love with me. I was a young teen when this song came out. I had a long crush on a young man who was one grade ahead of me in grade school all the way up through high school. We grew up together and I was just too shy to tell him how I felt about him. I never ever forgot about him all these years. My family moved and I never told him my eyes adored him. I hope he is doing fine wherever he is and have the love of his life. This song brings those memories back and it tugs so much on my heart. Unrequited love is something else.
