Markdown is a popular language for writing structured documents. It is based on HTML, but only supports a very simple set of capabilities. On the upside, the format is designed to be human-friendly, which means that markdown is easy to read and write in its source form. It is not a very powerful format, but one that is very useful because it is portable and widely-supported, and because it makes it easy to create and exchange structured documents.
In this video, we look at the motivation for the language, and go through all elements of the language. We don't discuss the very last detail or variation of the syntax, but this tutorial is sufficient to understand markdown and to start using it either as an author, or as somebody who works with documents that are targeted at web publishing.

Hey Erik. My wife - a medical scientist taking a Masters degree in nephrology - was struggling with a open-science article which talked a lot about the use of API's for global research cooperation. She came to me asking: "What the heck is an API?!". I forwarded your three-video series on the subject and it all became crystal clear to her. Thanks man!
