Tricky Approach Into Aspen

As the Challenger 300 cannot do the Aspen instrument approach, we have to come in visual, our mins are roughly 6000 ft ceilings, and it was just about that this morning, threading our way with the help of Aspen approach until we are visual and are able to maintain it until a safe touchdown, enjoy!

Colorado Trucker here. I see planes coming into this airport when i run CO-82 (the highway you flew over) and it’s so cool to see it from above. I hope to start my aviation career in August. Maybe one day I’ll fly this approach. Well done guys!

I've been a pilot for about 40 years. I'll never get a chance to fly that approach for real, but I've done it a few times on my simulator. It's a beautiful sight on the computer! I can't imagine how it must be for you guys... Good luck! We really enjoy your videos!

The approach into Aspen is quite a view. Especially in the winter. And you can't get a quicker taxi. Exit runway, taxi to parking. Nice landing.

As the jet descended through the cloud cover, the snow-capped mountain range panorama was utterly breathtaking. Surgical precision was required to pull off this intricate approach amid the peaks.

The absence of music enables armchair aviators to savour the subdued roar of those turbine engines from a virtual jump seat, while the buttery smooth cinematic camera pans are so easy on the eyes. Brilliant movie production and superlative airmanship as usual, sirs.

Flew into Aspen many years ago on a United CRJ -- It was a clear winter day and I remember the approach and landing being absolutely unreal

Thanks for sharing and safe travels!

Last time I tried flying into aspen we did a 180 and went right back to Denver 😂 Very tricky, not for the faint of heart.

Awesome approach into there! I just flew my Turbo Arrow III into Telluride last week. Looking to do Aspen and Leadville maybe before summer.

I'm curious, how come the Challenger could not do the LOC DME orr RNAV-F approach? Thanks for the great videos!

Flew into and out of Aspen in 1974. Wow. Definitely an E Ticket ride.

Beautiful shots of the 4 ski areas at Aspen complex. Landing at the base of the Buttermilk ski area was perfect! Lots of jets for such a small little airfield. I hear that it is the most difficult fly-in of all the airfields in the USA for a commercial airline. Is this true? I understand that it requires special certification. For reference: The largest ski area, seen at the right of the screen, is Snowmass. Then, going left, is the smaller, narrower, Highlands ski area. Then landing at Buttermilk. The furthest left ski area seen is the original Aspen ski area, aka Ajax.

As a Challenger 650 fan (there's an amazing model for X-Plane), I wanted to let you know how much this footage is appreciated, especially into a challenging airport in challenging conditions. Beautifully captured! A quick question, with regards to the anti-ice. If you're at a relatively low power setting, do you have to give consideration to 'leading' the engagement of anti-ice to give the surfaces time to warm up, so that by the time you hit IMC and potential icing, the surfaces are warm enough so it's not an issue? The plane in the sim models things like this and has study screens (beyond the regular synoptic displays) that allow you to see the temps of all the surfaces and it's fascinating to see a cold-soaked airplane at a low power setting taking a while to warm things up. Thanks again, please keep the footage coming!
