UPDATE: Shield of Night has been buffed as of Patch 1.13. It now has 60% physical block, the deflect attack now does a bit more damage and 15 stance damage.
Golden Lion Shield now gets 63 guard boost

Verdigris shield seems to be a lore driven function. The character is a pacifist and wants to protect others, so he's a tank with a huge wall shield that pushes back but doesn't damage.

to be honest most of the medium shields are just different drip options, becuase regardless of how good the brass shield is i just dont want to use a dorito for blocking

Thrusting shields are so fun to use and build around. I feel like many players overlook them because they aren't as flashy as some other dlc weapons. I had a blast using them both with and without the deflect tear

I think more people need to experiment with the viridian hidden tear. I used it with the visage shield on radagon with a bunch of fire buffs. I simply held L2 and watched him get cooked lol. No dodging needed

i have a 30s kill against Consort Radahn with the carian trhusting shield, that thing is seriously broken and it might be the strongest weapon right now. You vigor doesn't really matter, you can play with the Bloodsucking Cracked Tear without worries, it has synergies with so many talismans...

I have nearly finished my first RL1run, and the Smithscript Shield was such a boon for the run. It does mini staggers and interrupts on a number of the tougher bosses (particularly Malenia).

Very glad to see you give the thrusting shields some love; they are so incredibly fun and effective, and they enable an aggressive playstyle where you can actually just R1 an enemy proactively and have guard points backing you up.

Also I will be genuinely surprised if the Smithscript Shield doesn't get nerfed. This thing just trivializes the entire dungeon-crawling aspect of the game, and even some bosses are made a joke by it, like the Scadutree Avatar. Funny how STR builds got one of the best projectiles in the game.

So interesting that while there are a lot of dud spells, skills, and weapons in the dlc, of all things the shields seem to be pretty okay across the board
